Mexico Beach Memorial Reefs

The Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association has been constructing permanent artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico since 1997. More than 150 artificial reefs have been built to date.

Many of the artificial reefs constructed by the MBARA have been named for loved ones that have passed away. The MBARA works closely with families to construct memorial reefs for those that wish to immortalize the memory of a loved one. There are different types and sizes of memorial artificial reefs to fit many different individual needs. The MBARA has constructed memorial artificial reefs containing the ashes of the loved ones. Memorial reefs have also been deployed with permanently attached and inscribed bronze plaques. Many families remember how much their loved one enjoyed days spent on the waters and beaches of the Gulf. Building a memorial artificial reef often allows families and friends to build an eternal monument to their loved ones that will last for centuries and serve to enhance the Gulf's marine environment. The memorial artificial reefs are permanently placed on the MBARA website as well as incorporated into locally published nautical charts of the area.
